Artist Statement
I paint because I love to paint, I paint because I like to do a job properly, I paint because it's my way of getting to know reality, I paint to gain love, I paint to gain recognition, I paint to be in the moment, I paint because there is nothing else I rather do, I paint because it challenges me, I paint because it makes me feel in control. I paint because it is hard, I paint because it is meaningful to me, I paint because it brings me joy, I paint because it is me, I paint because I want to be seen, I paint because I can.
Bio
“Color and light are my first language. Everything else is translation.”
Gerson’s paintings are built in layers - color fields, gestural marks, and symbols. The work doesn’t illustrate ideas so much as searches for them, using paint as a way of thinking out loud.
Roni Gerson is an abstract painter working primarily in acrylic based in Sunnyvale, California. Born in Jerusalem, Israel, she brings a background in ceramics, graphic design, and mixed media to her painting practice. Since relocating to California in 2015, she has focused on abstract painting, studying at Stanford Continuing Studies and exhibiting throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.
